Building Links With Directories

By Kate Welder
One popular way to increase traffic to your website is through building links. The more links you have the more the search engine spiders and human visitors can find you, thus increasing traffic and profitability of your website. To gain a high
page rank (PR) you need a large number of inbound links pointing to your website. They are like a vote of popularity from other websites leading the search engines to your website. Best of all with a little bit of effort you can do it for free, by submitting your website to directories. There are paid directories available but if you are just starting out and on a small budget it is not necessary to pay for links.

One way to do this is submit your site to free directories. In addition to your listing many directories have you write a short description of your site to provide an anchor text with keywords related to your website. This is important to get your link noticed. Keep your description short and to the point using your most popular keywords. Search for high quality web directories that are human edited to submit your website to. Avoid free-for-all (FFA) or spam looking websites.

If you commit to adding your link to at least three directories a day you will soon have many links and you will see your popularity in the search engines soar. Adding links daily will help as it shows the search engines a more natural linking pattern as opposed to adding one hundred links in one day and then not adding any for several months.***
